John Moragne is a Managing Director of Trident Capital and co-founded the firm in 1993. In 1995, John became the initial chairman of Mapquest, helping to create one of the first global Internet brands. Since then, he has led many of Trident’s investments in game-changing Internet companies, including HomeAway and Turn.

In addition to Internet, John focuses on Healthcare Information Technology and Enterprise Software (investments include Resolution Health and Datatel). Currently, he sits on the boards of Turn, Sojern, NinthDecimal, Perigen, and Jobvite. Forbes recognized John’s investment success on its “Midas List.”

John’s past directorships include Chamberlin-Edmonds (acquired by CharterHouse Group), Datatel (acquired by Hellman & Friedman), HomeAway (AWAY), MapQuest (acquired by AOL), Newgen Results (acquired by Teletech), bamboo.com (acquired by IPIX), Daou Systems (DAOU), I/Pro (acquired by CMGI), Medicode (acquired by United Health Group), Resolution Health (acquired by WellPoint), Vality Technology (acquired by Ascential Software), and Invention Machines (acquired by IHS).

In addition to his board work on behalf of Trident, John is on the Advisory Board of the Stanford School of Earth Sciences, and a member of the Board of Directors of Climate Central.

Prior to co-founding Trident, John was a Principal with Bain Capital and of Information Partners Capital Fund, a private equity firm associated with Bain Capital and Dun & Bradstreet. Earlier in his career, John was a management consultant with Bain & Company and an exploration geologist with Texaco.

Raised in New York, John earned a B.A. from Dartmouth College, an M.S. from Stanford University, and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Outside of Trident, John enjoys biking, hiking and skiing with his family, and eating mint chip ice-cream.
